Poonam G. Agarwal, M.D., F.A.C.C. is board certified in Cardiovascular diseases, Nuclear Cardiology, Echocardiography as well as Level-II certified in Coronary CT-Angiography. She was Chief of Cardiology at the Medical Center of Plano and a member of the Executive Committee in 2007. She has also been the chairperson of the Utilization Review Committee, director of the Women and Heart Disease Initiative, and a member of the Peer-Review Committee at the Medical Center of Plano. Dr. Agarwal completed her residency at the University of Arizona, Tucson in 1996, and her Cardiology Fellowship from the University of California, Irvine in 1999.
She worked at the HeartPlace for about two years before setting up her own practice, Plano Heart Center, in March 2003. Dr. Agarwal is designated as a Premium Quality Provider for cardiovascular diseases by United Health Care and is recognized by BlueCross BlueShield of Texas as a Dark Blue Ribbon provider for outstanding performance. She is a strong believer in patient education. She frequently provides patients with education materials and advises them about what they can do to help lower their cholesterol, blood pressure, and modify other risk factors for cardiac disease. She takes the time to not only personally explain the results of the diagnostic tests to the patients, but also provides a clear direction and course of treatment with appropriate follow up care.
Dr. Agarwal is a staff cardiologist at the Baylor Scott & White Heart Hospital at Plano. This a state-of-the-art facility and ranked among the top 20 hospitals in the country in heart and vascular care by US News and World Report.
The following services are available at her office in Plano: Nuclear Stress Test, Echocardiogram, Stress-Echocardiograms, Holter- and Event-Monitoring for arrhythmia detection, cardiac consultation, pre-operative cardiovascular evaluation, and pacemaker analysis. In patients with abnormal stress test or those with angina despite a normal stress test, she performs diagnostic cardiac catheterization at the hospital to determine the extent of coronary artery disease for possible coronary intervention or bypass surgery.
